Issa Rae is looking to build on her empire.
During an interview with Time, the actress and producer revealed a slew of new ventures following the cancellation of her HBO Max show “Rap Sh!t” after two seasons.
Rae is making it clear she is nowhere near the finish line with a project set in “alternative present” on the way, which she will produce, write, and be featured in, in addition to a comedy centering on corporate America.
She is making it clear when one doors open, she will open her own, noting the importance of succeeding in the industry as she wants to be a vessel for change.
“I recognize that I have to do well economically to be able to make change,” Rae told Time. “That’s frustrating, that’s ugly. But I recognize that money moves things faster—and so much of what I do is with the intention to help make those moves.”’
While Rae will be nurturing new projects, she also wants to continue her efforts to support other creatives building on the work of her production company Hoorae and Color Creative, a marketing agency amplifying women and minority talent.
She is now looking to develop a studio, which will support other creators.
“We have the investors; it’s just about locking in on that land,” Rae said, according to Time. “When I tell you we’re ready, we’re ready. …I have my little stake in this limited plot of land, and I’m gonna make sure that I bring in as many people to live on it as possible. So until we run out of opportunities, they’ll be good.”
Rae is constructing a business portfolio to leave a lasting legacy that surpasses her lifetime. As AFROTECH previously told you, she launched Prosecco, a sparkling white wine sold in Target. She is also the founder of haircare brand Sienna Naturals and is an investor in the U.S. SailGP Team and Lobos 1707 tequila.
